BHS Students Perform Haydn’s Mass in Time of War
Under the direction of Michael Driscoll and Nina Bishop, Brookline High School’s Camerata Choir and Advanced Chamber Orchestra present Joseph Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli (Mass in Time of War), alongside works by Telemann and Grieg.
Composed during a period of political upheaval in Europe, Haydn’s Mass in Time of War balances urgency and serenity, fear and faith. It’s a work that has lost none of its resonance—and hearing it performed entirely by BHS students makes it all the more remarkable.
This concert features soloists from within the Camerata Choir and the full collaboration of voices and orchestra, showcasing the depth of musical talent at Brookline High School. From Haydn’s driving rhythms to its most luminous, tender moments, these are student musicians at their best.
